Draco(ドラコ)は紙媒体だけでなくモニター上で使うことも想定したローマン体フォントです。書体の特徴が表れやすいBoldウエイトを最初に制作しました。基本的には見出し向けですが可読性と美しさのバランスに気をつけています。
スケッチ 〜1週間〜
2014年の5月に英国レディング大学のGerry Leonidas先生が武蔵野美術大学を訪問した際に行われたワークショップで書体を作りました。一週間という限られた時間の中で書体デザインの基本となるadhesionの8文字 を制作しました。
デザインの特徴
Point1
始筆と終筆を直線的に
始筆と終筆を直線的に切り、曲線部分とのメリハリをつけています。
・始筆と終筆、ベース部分以外は曲線で構成
・コンマやピリオド、セミコロンなどは完全な
丸型ではなく、四角に近づけている
Point2
ベース部分を直線に
文章の流れをスムーズにするため、ベースラインに接する部分を直線にしています。モニターを使った際にもくっきりと表示できるメリットがあります。
フォント化
ワークショップの後、自主的に文字数を増やしてフォント化し、モリサワのタイプデザインコンペティションに提出しました。ワークショップの際には2種類の太さを作りましたが、Boldウエイトを最初にフォント化しました。
